Welcome to the Wild Boar 24 website. Date of Event: 17th/18th MAY 2008. With only 5 weeks to go before the first ever Wild Boar 24 in Grizedale Forest things are getting quite hectic around here! The event centre has now moved from Moor Top down to Bowkerstead Campsite just south of Satterthwaite village. This new location allows for for easier access for competitors and a lot more space! The field is dry and level, well not dry then but hopefully it will be by May! This also will allow us to accept small camper vans, no bigger than a VW Transporter, but still no caravans, sorry but the access lanes are very poor. If people would like to stay Sunday night, they can and it is at no extra charge. The course has been designed and is some 10 miles in length although this may be reduced depending on weather etc. In terms of technical features there are a few but nothing too daunting. We have tried to give a good mix of forest terrain with some fantastic Lakeland views just to remind you where you are competing! The start/finish area is a short but up hill ride/walk from the campsite. We were keen to avoid this but it has become unavoidable. For solos there will be a pit lane so you don't have to return to the campsite for a rest, refuel etc. You will at this moment in time however have to camp in the main field, however we are looking at an alternative. We are also delighted that SiS have agreed to help out and provide nutrition for the duration of the event. They join Ay Up! Lights, Hope Technology, Wheelbase and of course The North Face without whom the event would not have even got off the ground! Ay Up Lights have also agreed to put up a set of their fantastic MTB Lights as a prize for the fastest lap. If you haven't already checked out their website do so as these are a superb lighting system designed by people who ride and who take part in these kinds of events all over the world. You'll be able to chat with them at the event as they are providing your charge area for the duration. Hope Technology will be around all weekend with advice and tech support on Hope related products, don't be disappointed however if you don't have any Hope as they will be providing the bike wash facility so you can at least keep your bike a great condition all weekend! Wheelbase will be on site all weekend with lots of products for you purchase should you wish to or have to of course as you may require spares. They will be in the main marquee along with Ay Up and Hope. Food, we all love good food on these events and this will come courtesy of Wilfs. They will have the Wild Boar Wilfs Cafe in the main marquee and we will be trying to talk then in to having a small van at the start/finish area as well. Finally, a rule book at general event info will be sent out sometime in the next week or so so captains watch the post for this, it is very important you read it with your teams! Good Luck with final preparations! The North Face Wild Boar 24 Event Team
